I firmly believe there is always room for greater efficiency and optimization. My natural problem-solving mindset has led me to launch several impactful initiatives throughout my career. Below are the major ones.
When Microsoft Streets & Trips was discontinued in 2017, the company evaluated Maptitude as a replacement at $900 per user per year. With 10+ users required, the projected cost exceeded $9,000 annually. After the demo stage, I researched alternatives and identified Google My Maps. By uploading our inspectors’ spreadsheet (names, addresses, details), we created fully functional custom maps at zero cost. This solution has delivered reliable location tracking since 2017, permanently eliminating the $9,000 yearly expense.
Production data was previously tracked in individual Excel files. Each team member emailed their sheet daily; the team leader then merged them into a master tracker, consuming 30–60 minutes every day plus risking typos, duplicates, and version errors. I built a streamlined replacement using Microsoft Forms. Team members submit data after each file via a simple form. Responses flow directly into a backend spreadsheet, ready for analysis. This cut collation time entirely, removed manual errors, and improved data accuracy and timeliness.
Process updates were previously emailed, leaving team members to maintain personal reference copies that quickly became outdated. The company lacked an intranet. With manager approval, I designed and launched a centralized knowledge repository using Google Sites on our Google Workspace domain. I built, populated, and maintained the site for several years. It now serves as the single source of truth for all procedures and updates. The training department has since taken ownership, ensuring timely revisions. Access remains restricted to authorized internal users, functioning effectively as a private intranet.
A system migration required downloading and re-uploading tens of thousands of property photos. The downloaded files lacked extensions, making them unreadable and unacceptable to the target system (which required .jpg or .png). The team began manually renaming files one by one—an effort projected to take days. I researched and applied a Windows Command Prompt batch command to append .jpg extensions to all files instantly. The solution was implemented immediately, eliminating hours (and potentially days) of repetitive work and restoring team momentum.
Appraisal discussions were frequently contentious because rating criteria remained subjective. Team members often believed they deserved higher scores; managers disagreed. I created a clear, written rating guide defining exact conditions for ratings 1 through 5. Examples include:
Any CAP/DAP caps rating at 3; final CAP/DAP caps at 2.
Unsubstantiated unplanned absenteeism caps at 3.
Rating 4 requires no CAP/DAP, no unsubstantiated absenteeism, and process mastery (typically after 3+ months).
Rating 5 demands all of the above plus demonstrated initiatives with measurable impact (cost savings, efficiency gains, training others).
Shared with the team in 2017, the guide made ratings objective and transparent. Since implementation, no rating rebuttals have occurred.
